McConnell Taping

Picture 1All of our physical therapists utilize and have been trained in McConnell taping. This concept was developed by Australian physiotherapist Jenny McConnell. McConnell techniques are based on an understanding of the influence of posture on dynamic activities as a causative factor for musculoskeletal symptoms and the beneficial effects of unloading soft tissue, usually with a semi-rigid tape, to immediately decrease pain and optimize treatment effects.

The McConnell approach is built on the foundations that by understanding the symptoms, understanding the causative factors and addressing each of these using tape and specific muscle training a physical therapist can help improve and even correct biomechanical problems therefore improving therapeutic outcomes for our patients.

Kinesio Taping®

Kinesio taping is a therapuetic taping technique that not only supports muscles and joints, but helps correct muscle function, relieve pain, and improve circulation of the blood and lymphatic systems without restricting range of motion. The specialized latex-free elastic tape is the same thickness as the skin, making it patient and skin-friendly. It is durable enough to stay on for multiple days, even through sweating and showering. Kinesio Taping gained worldwide recognition at the 2008 Beijing Olympics and has been endorsed by Lance Armstrong as well as the majority of professional baseball, football, and volleyball leagues.

All of our therapists have completed Kinesio Taping® I and II coursework and are trained in the theories and application of the tape, using both corrective and mechanical techniques. Atlas Physical Therapy is proud to be the only Callaway County physical therapy provider with a CKTP (certified Kinesio tape practicioner) that offers this taping technique.
